One of Karen's three key priorities as the Member of Parliament for Redditch County is to protect and enhance vital health services and ensure the continuation of services at the Alex.

Our local hospital is something to be valued and protected. The Alexandra Hospital has been one of the issues dominating Karen's workload during her time as an MP and is one of her top priorities. She has campaigned for many years not only to protect services at the Alex but also to improve them.

Karen said: "As a Redditch resident myself I rely on the Alex, just like everybody else does. Let's be clear, the Alex is a good hospital and we need its future to be secure. I believe that the people of Redditch have a right to be treated and cared for in their home town. I want to make sure we get the best we can for the people of Redditch. The uncertainty has gone on for too long now. I have been involved in politics in Redditch for over fifteen years and for a large proportion of that time there have been concerns about the Alex's future. We need to secure long-term commitments on the Alex so that our hospital can then look towards providing even more for the people of Redditch.

We all rely on the NHS. Like my constituents I have seen seen first-hand the support the NHS offers and have had to call upon the NHS for treatment for myself and my family. The NHS is something to be valued and protected, now and in the future. But you can only have a strong NHS if you have a healthy economy. We obviously face challenging times but the people of Redditch County are rightly very proud of the Alex, and the people of Britain of the NHS. I want to see both go from strength to strength in the coming years."

Important Message

Staff from my office have been busy organising two Pensioners' Advice & Information Fairs – one-stop shops to introduce support, voluntary and other relevant services and organisations to those of pensionable age in Redditch.

I have already hosted three very successful Jobs Fairs, an Apprenticeships and Skills Fair and a Charity Funding Fair, and the Pensioners Fairs are set to follow in the wake of their accomplishments.

So far around 20 organisations have confirmed their attendance at two events which are set to take place as follows:

Friday, 3 March, 10am-12pm at the Rocklands Social Club, Birchfield Road, Headless Cross B97 4LB

Friday, 17 March, 10am-12pm at the Mettis (formerly HDA) Social Club in Cherry Tree Walk, Batchley B97 6PB

Youngsters starting University have Freshers' Fairs and for those seeking employment I run regular Jobs' Fairs, so I wanted to replicate this successful concept for my older constituents who may not be aware of the fantastic breadth of organisations out there with services they may find valuable.

The idea is to bring together, under one roof, a mix of statutory, voluntary and activity-based bodies who can showcase their services.

Organisations confirmed as taking part are: Act on Energy, Age UK, Citizens Advice, Council Electoral Services, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, The National Trust, West Mercia Police, Home Instead, Carers Careline, Redditch Association for the Blind, Healthwatch Worcestershire, Care & Repair Worcestershire, Redditch Borough Council Health Improvement, The Alzheimer's Society, Severn Trent Water, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening and Trading Standards.

Admission to both events is free and refreshments will be provided as well.
